FLUENTLY EXECUTED LINES ALLOW THE EYE TO FLOW EFFORTLESSLY AROUND SIMON GUDGEON’S SCULPTURES. As with watching the ocean or a constantly flowing stream, Gudgeon’s work engages and soothes.

“My work is inspired by nature; early sculptures were more representational, although the very nature of the materials used makes pure representation in sculpture impossible,” Gudgeon says in his artist statement. “Now it is more abstract, still inspired by nature but more by natural forms and the human body.”

With echoes of the human figure in his abstract bird sculptures, Gudgeon continues to explore expressions of beauty that appeal to the senses.

“However, the work must have a vitality and emotional appeal beyond that,” he says. “That appeal must be independent of the object it represents and beyond the element of pure beauty.”

Gudgeon sculpts primarily in bronze, marble and granite and occasionally in glass or stainless steel.

His works are featured in important private collections abroad and in the United Kingdom, including those of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of Bedford and The Duke of Northumberland.
