Michael Boyett grew up in a military environment. His father, a career officer in the US Air Force, moved frequently across the US, exposing his family to much of the history of this country. Using his vivid imagination, Michael began to draw imaginary scenes of frontier America and recognition in school of his artistic talent encouraged him to explore the various forms of art. Combining his growing talent with his natural love for his nation’s heritage, seemed to create an almost inseparable pathway for his career.
After attending the University of Texas Art School, Michael joined the US Army, where he served as an infantryman during the worst years of the Vietnam War. It was there that he was wounded in an enemy ambush. That, along with other experiences in Vietnam, burned a deep sensitivity into his nature which is vividly expressed in his works of art today.
Interest in heroic historical America, coupled with desire for realism, lead to the development of his moving and powerful style with emphasis on fine detail, bold movement and historic accuracy. Michael believes that each sculpture should give the viewer the sensation that he has actually witnessed an event in history.
For 30 years, Michael has been a professional fine artist, establishing a considerable reputation in the art world. His sculptures have been produced and sold by various nationally known corporations, fine art galleries, museums, dealerships, and distributed throughout the US and many foreign countries to thousands of collectors. One of his sold out limited edition sculptures, "Flat Out for Red River Station," grossed over 7.5 million dollars. It has been stated that this sculpture, "is arguably the best selling work of metal sculpture ever, and is the standard by which all others will be judged." (Chilmark, The Lance Corporation, Hudson, MA, January 1992.) In recent years, Michael has been involved in sculpting monument size art, including life size bust portraits, for public, private and corporate commissions.
