ARCHITECTS AND DESIGNERS
Little Star Gallery Douglas Rich
There is a philosophy among the coastal tribes of British Columbia, Canada regarding what it means to be an artist. An artist is not someone who merely works within one creative discipline. An artist must be adept and skilled at creating everything from ocean going canoes, houses, jewelry, harpoons, ceremonial objects, everyday utilitarian items and two dimensional graphic arts as well as magnificent totem poles. The creative spirit is required to express itself within every facet of an artist’s life. This philosophy was also shared by one of Japan’s greatest Samurai sword masters. Miyamoto Musashi instructed his students to become well versed in all the arts. In addition to mastering the sword, one should be knowledgeable in the arts of poetry, calligraphy, painting and writing as well as forging, carpentry and business. The work of Douglas Rich represents this beautiful philosophy. Everything is within the creative reach of an artist.
Douglas Rich is a self taught artist & designer. His creative works range from product design, lighting & furniture to painting, sculpture, jewelry and fashion. His infectious, never ending sense of humor touches everyone and everything in his life. When not creating, he can be found in the wilds of the American West, happily without a cell phone or last known location. He currently resides in Denver, Colorado.
