ARCHITECTS AND DESIGNERS
Denver Art Museum Profile
Founded in 1893 and already one of the largest art museums
between Chicago and the West Coast, the Denver Art Museum
nearly doubled its gallery space when the new Frederic C.
Hamilton Building
opened in 2006. Designed by
renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, the Hamilton Building
consists of geometric shards flaring out like titanium flower petals. The Hamilton Building
houses the Museum’s modern and contemporary, Western American, African and Oceanic
collections as well as three traveling exhibition galleries. The Museum's original
striking North Building
was designed by Gio Ponti of Italy. Its galleries showcase some of the Museum’s 68,000+
works of art from around the world, including European and American painting, sculpture
and design, textile art, and a world-famous American Indian art
collection. The Museum's collections of
pre-Columbian and Spanish Colonial art, Asian, and architecture, graphics and
design are also very fine. Nationally
recognized as a family-friendly place, the Denver Art Museum
offers a variety of innovative and interactive programs, including the Just For
Fun Family Center, Hotspots, family backpacks, the Kids Corner, gallery games, art tubes and more. Visitor amenities include daily architecture and collection highlight tours, two Museum Shops, on-site
restaurants and spectacular event spaces.
